Jack always knew he wanted to fly. At the age of three, he offered his 3 pennies to a barn storming stunt pilot for a ride in his plane. From that he moved on to the U.S. Army Air Corps (later the USAF) and served with distinction for 27 years. He served in the Berlin airlift early in his career and served for 14 months in Vietnam where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.

After retirement from the Air Force he flew for 27 more years as a corporate pilot employed by several different companies around the country.

He loved to tell stories and had a great sense of humor, often playing practical jokes on the people he loved. As a little boy Jack traded his prized pocket knife for a baby alligator. He took it home and put it in the bathtub unbeknownst to the aunt who raised him. When she came to take her bath and discovered the alligator—she screamed and he grinned!

Besides his love of flying, Jack loved his family and wished that all of his 6 children lived close by. He was married for almost 69 years to Mary Beth whom he met in 3rd grade. Jack loved visiting all his children and grandchildren and was looking forward to the birth of twin great-grandchildren in December.

He was ordained a deacon in Newfoundland, Canada in 1958 and continued to serve as a deacon in churches where he lived after that. Jack was generous with his time and money often giving anonymously. One of his favorite treats was to take someone out to eat.

Jack fully lived his 91 years with us and was ready to go Home to his Lord. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him here.
