Vivian Thurston

April 20, 1924 — September 23, 2016

Vivian Thurston passed away late morning on September 23, 2016 from cancer at the age of 92. She was born in Illinois and grew up near Hampshire on a dairy farm. She attended the University of Northern Illinois and met and married Kenneth Thurston, a Navy pilot during the last year of WWII. Late that year when hostilities had ceased and he was discharged from the Navy, they moved to Champaign, Illinois where he eventually found employment with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. They bought a small tract home in a new post war concept called a subdivision, he went back to school on the GI bill and they embarked on the American dream. They started a family and moved from Illinois to a new job for Kenneth at the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1956. After raising a family and enjoying almost 30 years in Boulder, they moved to Aurora near Cherry Creek Reservoir in 1986. Their view of the mountains from Pike's Peak to Long's Peak was a source of fulfillment for the next phase of their lives, along with golfing across the U.S. Kenneth passed away in 2007. Vivian is survived by a daughter, Diane of Aurora, Colorado, a son, Greg of Kalispell, Montana, a granddaughter, Annie of Seattle, Washington and a granddaughter, Alison of Fort Collins, Colorado. Viewing will be at Horan and McConaty at Parker Road and Dartmouth, Aurora on Wednesday, September 28 at 1 PM. A small private ceremony for family will be held at graveside after Vivian's interment next to Kenneth at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
