Obituary

Virginia (Ginny) Gwen Dahl was born to (Philip) Samuel Dahl and (Esther) Ione Freeland Dahl in Holdredge, Nebraska. She spent her early Nebraska years in Axtell (home of the Bethphage Campus of Mosaic), Upland, and Dorchester. Her family then moved to Lincoln where she graduated from Northeast High in 1955 and Nebraska Wesleyan College in 1959. On a blind date, she met Gary Charles Flack. He could dance a mean jitterbug and loved her true, so they were married October 11, 1959. Gary and Ginny have four children: Steven Kjell Flack, Susan Joy Flack (m. Kent Cattarello), Rebecca Ruth (m. Scott) Near, and Carolyn Kay (m. Dave) Gage.

While in high school and college, Ginny spent a lot of time perfecting her violin and organ skills. She would use her musical gifts for the churches that she and Gary attended throughout their life. She conducted the Zion Lutheran Chancel Choir in Loveland, Colorado for many years and sang in the Zion Women’s Sextet “The Sound of Music”, making dear lifelong friends. When the family moved to Minnesota, Ginny also was active in the musical life in Redwood Falls. Ginny continued to spread her love of music by starting music groups that everyone could enjoy, such as the Peak to Peak Chorale in Black Hawk, when they moved back to her beloved mountains in Colorado.

Ginny loved to be involved with people and events. She had a way of making people feel special. She adored the people that she served at Bethphage (now Mosaic - an organization founded by her grandfather K.G. William Dahl) where she worked during her summers in college. She cherished her sorority life and served as president of Willard House at Nebraska Wesleyan her senior year. Ginny’s Swedish heritage was important to her and she treasured visits with her cousins from Stockholm. She belonged to bridge clubs, Bible studies, and loved to host gatherings of friends and family in her home. Throughout Mom’s life, it was evident that her family, her friends, her music, (Bethphage) Mosaic, and her faith in the LORD came first.

Caring for, being connected to, and listening to the stories of her family and friends was the joy of her life. She is survived by her husband Gary; her brother, David William (m. Laura) Dahl; three daughters: Susan, Becky, and Carolyn; six grandchildren: Stacia, Kathleen, and Michelle Near; Melodi and Benjamin Flack; and Jordan Gage; and four nieces: Jennifer Ruth (Gellermann) DeWitt, Joanna Ione (Gellermann) Long, Anna Teresa (Dahl) Zack, and Rachel Lillian (Dahl) Avila. And as Ginny never knew a stranger, she is survived by all those whom she adopted as her own. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Ione; two sisters, Nancy Gellermann and Susan; and a son, Steven.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, 11:00 am at St Philip Lutheran Church at 7531 S Kendall Blvd in Littleton, CO 80128.
