Tom Behunin

January 21, 1955 — April 2, 2018

Tom Behunin, 63, of Arvada, Colorado, passed away at home on April 2, 2018; he was surrounded by the love of his family, after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. Tom was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and “Papa T”. Tom was born in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, to Delon (D) and Mary Behunin. He was one of eight children: Gloria Shearer (D), Cindy (Rob) Parker, Jeff Behunin (D), Vince Behunin, Serri Behunin-Hupp, Heidi Nesladek, and Troy (Julie) Behunin. Tom graduated from Arvada West High School in 1973. He worked with his father, starting at the early age of 10, where he learned to be a brick mason; a skill which he took tremendous pride in his entire life. He married Denise Olsen in 1976 and was blessed with four amazing children: Jennifer Behunin (her daughter, Lilliana and Lillian's father, Bill Hahn); Tiffany Day (her husband, Shane, and their children, Kalyssa, Kambrie, Koralyn, and Kinnley); Calvin Behunin (his wife, Carie, and their children, Micah and Roselyn); and Steven Behunin (his girlfriend, Kayla Kromarek). Tom worked as a Construction Supervisor at MillerCoors from 1978-1996 where he met many of his close friends. Tom loved to work and did it with the upmost perfection. He started Tom J. Behunin Construction in 1996, which specialized in Industrial Epoxy Coatings. Tom took tremendous pride in having a business where his family was able to work side by side with him. He was a man that prided himself on a job well done! Tom was the ultimate family man. He loved and adored his seven grandkids more than words could ever describe. He was the best “Papa T” ever and was never happier then when he was spending time with them; spoiling them at every chance. Tom’s passion in life was hunting and fishing. He loved bowhunting and was master at it. He loved the outdoors and had the opportunity to hunt around the world. Tom was very active in The Colorado Bowhunters Association. He had received the award for Bowhunter of the Year and The Lifetime Achievement Award with the CBA. Tom had was blessed with the opportunity to do several hunting shows for television; which showcased his love and expertise of the outdoors. He contributed countless hours of service time and enjoyed every minute of it. Tom’s generosity knew no bounds. He would be the first to offer help if someone had a need. He lived a full life filled with a family that he loved dearly, adventure, travel, amazing friends, and hard work that afforded him the chance to live out some of his lifelong dreams. He will be loved forever and deeply missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him. The family will receive family and friends at visitation on Monday, April 9, 2018 beginning at 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM, with Funeral Services honoring Tom beginning at 11:00 AM, both at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, Colorado 80003. Entombment will immediately follow at 1:30 PM at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 12801 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
