Thelma Cantu

June 4, 1924 — April 17, 2018

This is the story of Thelma Irene Rosenoff Cantu. Thelma was a charming and endearing woman who is loved, missed, and will always be cherished. Our “Thelma Lou,” as she liked to be called by her family, was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, farmer’s daughter, and a baker of krautburgers like no other could be. Thelma was quietly gregarious and loved springtime, Easter, and her husband, Tony. Thelma died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on April 17, 2018. Thelma’s story begins on June 4, 1924; born to Sophie and H.G. Rosenoff on Johnson’s farm near Niwot/Longmont, Colorado. Thelma loved farm life and had a deep love of animals, including milk cows, Big Ears, Babe, and Pretty Girl. Being a young woman in the 1940’s, she came to Denver to seek her fortune and found both a clerking job at Lowry Air Force Base; and the love of her life, her husband, Tony B. Cantu. After a whirlwind romance, Thelma and Tony eloped and were married in Colorado Springs on June 21, 1943. Loved ones that will miss Thelma, until they meet again, include her daughters, Karen Towner (Beverly), Beverlee Jill Hood (Mike), and Robyn Weber (Eric). Grandchildren, Hilary Bettis (Bobby), Christopher Bettis (Dana), and twins, Colin Bettis (Dani) and Timothy (Janessa). Thelma’s surviving brothers include Henry Rosenoff, Roger Rosenoff (Debbie), and Doug Rosenoff (Joyce). Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, Major (RET) Tony B. Cantu. Her siblings that also preceded her, and are now welcoming Thelma home, include Sarah “Sally” Jones (Kenneth R. “Kenny”), Elizabeth Charlene Polk (Bill), Willard “Ed” Rosenoff (Sarah), and baby girls, who died in infancy, Elnora Jane Rosenoff and Mary Lou Rosenoff. What a family reunion this will be. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at 10AM, Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80227. Interment, Fort Logan National Cemetery. And so the story goes until we see our dear Thelma again. We love you and miss you Mom.
