Shirley Hastings

Shirley Diane Tedder Hastings, 87, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away on December 31, 2017, at Littleton Hospital. Born on February 12, 1930, she always enjoyed sharing her birthday with Abraham Lincoln. Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Leslie, Jane, and Nancy Hastings, and two granddaughters, Allison Hastings-Wottowa and Gillian Egan. Shirley graduated from Pomona College in 1951 and attended the University of California at Berkeley to pursue a graduate degree in Education. When she realized that she didn't enjoy teaching, Shirley joined the Berkeley Police Department where she served as a juvenile Police Officer for five years. During that time, Shirley married Donald F. Hastings, a Pomona classmate and graduate of the Harvard Business School. She left the police department upon becoming pregnant with their first child and spent the 40 years supporting Don in his successful career at the Lincoln Electric Company where he rose to become CEO and Chairman of the Board. Shirley personified the saying, ""behind every great man is an even greater woman."" She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
