Rosalind Karlin

January 31, 1925 — January 14, 2015

Rosalind ""Rusty"" Karlin (Wasinger) passed away on January 14, 2015 in Centennial, Colorado. She was born January 31, 1925 in Hays, Kansas to Mary and Martin Wasinger. Rusty is survived by her sister, Emily Richter, her brothers, Joe and John Wasinger, her children, Elizabeth (Bob) Bleakley and Bob (Linda) Karlin, her grandchildren, Bethany (Mark) Zolman, Greg (Kelly) Pritchard, Jason (Emilie) Karlin, and Christina Pritchard, and her great grandchildren, Lauren Pritchard, Taylor Pritchard, Abby Karlin, Alexandra Zolman, Erin Karlin, Cameron Pritchard, and Joe Pritchard. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elden ""Joe"" Karlin, and her brothers, Herbert, James, and Franklin Wasinger. A memorial service to celebrate Rusty's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 5303 E. County Line Rd., Centennial, CO 80112. An online guest register is available at www.horancares.com. Rusty attended Girls Catholic High School in Hays, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. After working at Walker Army Airfield during World War II, she married Elden in April 1947 and they moved to Denver. Rusty worked at Green Brothers Fruit & Produce for nearly 50 years where she wore several hats and typed almost 100 words a minute – on a manual typewriter! Rusty enjoyed countless gatherings with friends and the large contingent of Wasingers and Karlins who moved to Denver after the war. She made many trips over the years to Las Vegas and Central City to visit their poker machines, played in several bridge groups, and was an avid reader. Most importantly to her family, Rusty was a generous person and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She raised her family in three homes on Pontiac, Fairfax, and Ulster Streets, all of which hold many cherished memories. She was a tremendous source of encouragement and advice to her children and grandchildren, fostering their imaginations, and often bragging about their accomplishments. She will be terribly missed, but loved and remembered forever. Please share your memories of Rusty and condolence messages for her family below.
