Ron Sloan

February 17, 1938 — March 23, 2016

Born February 17, 1938 - Passed Away March 23, 2016. Served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1963. Survived by his 2 children, Dan and Lisa, 5 grandchildren, Seth, Zack, Jake, Hunter and Samantha. Brother Buck and sisters Donna and Frankie. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was the youngest of 5 children born to Elmer and Zylpha Sloan. He is preceded in death by his brother Swede and his mother and father. Those are the facts of our dad's life. But they can never explain the kind of man he was. He was quiet and unassuming, and always had a genuine smile for everyone. Everyone who ever met him...loved him. Dad was never one to impose his will on others and believed everyone should be able to live their life the way they wanted. He taught us about self-reliance and standing on our own feet. He was never one to ask for help, but he would be the first to offer it. Sometimes he was frustratingly quiet, but underneath he was a man with strong emotions. He loved his children unconditionally and was always proud of us. It's hard to sum up a man's life in a couple of paragraphs. He was a man that didn't feel the need to speak a lot and saved his words for things he felt were important. We can never express how much he meant to all of us and how much his absence will leave a hole in our hearts. He had many friends at his VFW Post and he always said ""When I can't come to the VFW to see my friends and have a beer, then it's time for me to go."" He never wanted to live long enough to be a burden to anyone. He never was. He couldn't be if he tried. There are many words to describe the man, but it's so hard to convey the feelings behind them. It doesn't do him justice. Strong, Independent, Stubborn, Kind, Sweet, Loving, Loyal, Forgiving, Quiet, Thoughtful, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Friend. This is who he was. He will be missed more than words could ever convey.
