He was born in Pueblo Colorado on July 15, 1928, however he lived most of his life in Denver. He was the son of the late Rev. F. Robert and Vera Acsell. He is survived by his sister Marjorie Nelson and was preceded in death by his brother Robert Acsell and his sister Gloria Presuhn. He was married to Edith (Peters) Acsell for 62 years and lovingly raised four children, Jeffrey (Jean) Acsell of Charleston, S.C., Randy Acsell (deceased) Denver, Colo., Tracie (Richard) Fike of Sacramento, CA and Susan (Paul) Mikkelson of Littleton, Colorado. He was a devoted grandfather to 9 grandchildren, Lauren (Jason) Vallotton, Austin Acsell, Connor Acsell, Mitchell Acsell, Robert Acsell, Riley (Lauren) Fike, Joseph Fike, Kelsey Mikkelson, and Skyler Mikkelson. He attended East High School and graduated in 1945. He went on to the University of Colorado where he met the love of his life, Edith Peters, and graduated with a BA in Education. He also attained his Masters degree in 1963 from CU and was an educator and administrator in the Denver Public School System for 39 years.

Ray loved his church community and was a devout Lutheran for his entire life. He enjoyed travelling, working in his garden, exercising at Colorado Athletic Club Monaco, dancing, riding his bike and attending the Rockies baseball games with friends. However, his greatest passion was his family.

Ray's family will remember him as a kind, loving man, devoted father and husband, consummate teacher, true friend and devout Christian.
