Phil Spano, 90, of Henderson, Colorado, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017. Phill was born on January 23, 1927, in Welby, Colorado to Joe and Jenny Spano. Phil's parents immigrated from Palermo, Sicily in 1923. Phil is survived by his wife of 68 years Ruth, his daughter Sandy (Lyle), and preceded in death by his son Phil Jr. and sister, Marietta Rody. He is survived by his brother, Tony Spano; sisters Rose Larusso, Carmella Calabrese, Ann Smtih (Kenny), Lena Saccomano; brother-in-law Don Rody. He had one granddaughter and one great granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. As a young man, Phil worked on his parent's farm in Welby, Colorado growing vegetables. He grew up in a large loving Italian family that focused around family and friends. A typical Sunday included at least 30 or more people joining the family for pasta, meatballs and lively conversation. When Phil met his wife, Ruth Frances Mihelcich, his world centered around her. He and Ruth honeymooned on his first trip out of Colorado, driving to California. Soon after they welcomed their son Phil Jr., followed by their daughter Sandy. Phil was a loving husband and father. The family loved to travel, starting with their first trip to Disneyland by car in the early 1960's. In the following years, Phil and Ruth loved to be joined by friends on their many adventures, which included visits to family in Sicily and a host of other wonderful places. Las Vegas was a favorite destination of his, where he recalled seeing the original ""Rat Pack"" at the Sands Hotel. Over the years Phil created several businesses, with the first being a trucking company, Midwest Haulers Incorporated. He was also involved in his community and many charitable endeavors. Phil enjoyed playing bocce ball and his weekly poker game with his buddies. He loved his daily lunch gatherings at Mickey's. Phil will be remembered as a kind, generous man and will be missed by many. Viewing Wednesday 5:30pm-7pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant St, Thornton.
