Denver native, Margaret Ann (Peggy) Gibson died Monday, October 2, 2017 at her home in Arvada, Colorado. Born in 1929 to Thomas Frances Ryan and Dorothy D. Ryan, Peggy grew up in North Denver where she attended St. Dominicâs Grammar School and North High School. Growing up she enjoyed playing in the alley behind the Decatur Street house, visiting the five and dime store and beating any of the neighborhood kids at anything they wanted to play. Peggy graduated North High School in 1947 and was instrumental planning her 40th, 50th and 60th high school reunions. Peggy enrolled at Loretta Heights College upon graduation but her passion and love of basketball kept her from pursuing her degree. Peggy was selected to represent the United States as an AAU All American Basketball player in 1951. She toured Cuba, Central and South America, competing at the highest level available for women at that time. While attending the Colorado State High School Championship Tournament in March of 1953, she met the love of her life, Bernard Ernest (Ben) Gibson. Ben and Peggy were married in September of that year They were able to celebrate their 52nd anniversary before Ben passed away in May of 2005. Her passions included her âsnowbirdâ home in Green Valley, Arizona, her beloved Chicago Cubs, Denver Rockies and Denver Broncos. But, her real passion was her family. Peggy was able to love and welcome into the world a fabulous extended family. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Lancaster, granddaughter Kacie (Patrick) Ireland, and great granddaughters Kennedy and Kensington Ireland, granddaughter Janell (Mark) Lopez and great grandson Max Lopez; her devoted son Jim Gibson; and youngest daughter Jayne (Tom) McHugh, grandsons, Ryan and Jack McHugh; and numerous nephews and nieces. Peggy was the ultimate hostess, the best Mom, best neighbor, best buddy anyone could ever ask for. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Ryan; husband, Ben; sister, Patricia Jaquet and brother in law, Tom Jaquet. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 10/12, 10:30 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 12735 West 58th Avenue, Arvada.
