Patricia Barker

July 15, 1929 — January 19, 2018

Pat, 88, of Denver passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018, after spending the day with her family and friends celebrating her life. Pat was born on July 15, 1929, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, with her mother, Edrie McAninch Lewis and her sisters, Jacqueline and Shirley. She attended Paseo High School and graduated from William Jewell College. Pat met her future husband, Boyd Barker, at Linwood Presbyterian Church in Kansas City where the Lewis sisters and Boyd’s brother, Raleigh, were active in the youth group. Boyd was in graduate school in Ames, Iowa, at the time. Pat and Boyd were married on December 20, 1952, and began their married life in the Boston area where they both worked at MIT Lincoln Labs. In 1961, they moved to Denver where they raised their children and became active in the community. Pat was deeply involved in the local schools and in their churches, Salem UCC and First Plymouth UCC. Ecology was her passion. Pat and Boyd’s lifestyle embodied “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” long before it became part of civic awareness. She was very proud of her work with the City of Denver's ""Keep Denver Beautiful"" Program, and her involvement in the ""Whole Earth"" committee at First Plymouth Church. Pat was active in the Cook Park Community Association and was a volunteer for the Denver Police Department’s “Cop Shop” neighborhood outreach program. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, dancing, tennis, and traveling. In addition to her husband, Boyd, Pat is survived by her children: Karen Bouvier (David) and Dan Barker; her grandchildren, Anthony Bouvier (McKenna) and Allison Bouvier; niece, Kay Schwob (Mark) and nephew, Keith Barker (Elisabeth); grandnephews Hunter Schwob, Heaston Schwob, and Sebastian Barker; grandnieces Rebecca Moczygemba (Andrew) and Isabel Talley (Stuart). Pat was preceded in death by her sisters, Jacqueline Barker and Shirley Hanson, and Boyd's siblings, Raleigh Barker and Mary Lou Harkness. Services will be held at First Plymouth Congregational Church UCC, 3501 S. Colorado Blvd, Englewood, CO 80113, on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Pat to First Plymouth Congregational Church (firstplymouthchurch.org); missions dear to her heart were the Whole Earth Ministry, Can Do Sunday, and the Denver Inner City Parish.
