Michael Schene

Michael Schene, 71, of Highlands Ranch passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2014. Michael had a career with the National Park Service; first in historic preservation and then in environmental management. He had a MA and Ph.D. in history (FSU), a Masters in Environmental Policy and Management (DU) and, most recently, a Masters in Creative Writing from Naropa University.(2013). His dissertation was published as a book, Hopes, Dreams, and Promises, (1977) and he had numerous articles published in history as well as an edited work on Cultural Resource Management (1987). In the past few years he had several of his poems published through Naropa University. Michael suffered a spinal cord injury in 2006, and was mostly confined to a wheelchair. He never stopped embracing life, always had goals, and created joy in his wife of 37 years, Pat; his children and grandchildren through his humor and deep love. He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014, 3:00 PM, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 E. County Line Rd., Centennial, CO 80122.
