On Sunday, October 8th, 2017, Michael Angelo Garamella left this mortal life. He was born in Connecticut on March 30th, 1916 to Antonino Garamella and Nicolina Cardinale Garmella.

Michael is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen Estelle Garcia Garamella, and his grandchildren, Ashley Anderson and Lucas Anderson. He is survived by his four children, Margaret (Tim) Holcomb, Nicolette (Jon) Anderson, Robert Garamella, and Michelle (Neil) McCoy; seven grandchildren, Paul (Courtney) Kelly, Jr., Matthew (Naomi Maestas) Kelly, Zachary Holcomb, Nicholas Holcomb, and Michael (Sarah) Anderson, Mari McCoy, and Terrence McCoy; and seven great-grandchildren.

Michael lived in Denver since WWII. He was recovering from tuberculosis at Fitzsimons Army Hospital, where he met his wife, Helen, who was a clerk at the hospital. His WWII active service started in 1942 with battles and campaigns including Tunis, Sicily, Naples, Rome, the Battle of Monte Casino, Battle of Kasserine Pass, Southern France, and culminating in the Battle of the Bulge. In the Ardennes forest, Michael contracted tuberculosis and was shipped home to recover over the next seven months.

After the war, Michael studied and was granted his civil engineering license. After, he worked for the Colorado State Highway Department from 1956-1976, where he was on the team that designed and built the Eisenhower Tunnel. He acquired his real estate license and purchased several properties, beginning his investment business and rental business.

In life, he was always learning and, toward the end, became one of the warmest and kindest person that you would ever want to know. Mike also had an appreciation of the finer things and used to say, “You are a gentleman, a scholar, and a judge of good whiskey!”
