Mary Evelyn Sheda, age 98, died peacefully at Brookdale Mountain View Care Facility on February 8, 2018. Mary was born June 20, 1919, on the family farm near Norse, Iowa, and Nolan Settlement, the daughter of John A. Wall and Mary Leonard Wall. On the family farm, she learned the values of hard work family ties, Irish heritage, and her Catholic Faith. Mary was a survivor of the Great Depression which instilled in her a lifelong commitment to thrift and saving. She graduated from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and in 1944 left the family farm, along with her sister Marion Jean Jowell, and took a train west to Denver where she lived until her passing. Mary was employed in the Financial Service Industry where she put her financial skills and stock analysis to good and was rapidly promoted to positions of authority and responsibility.
On January 23, 1960, Mary married Raymond Sheda at Mother of God Catholic Church in Denver. Mary and Raymond enjoyed golfing, attending Denver Bronco and CU football games, fly fishing, travel, and spending time with family and friends. Mary was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she participated in Bible Study groups and Scripture Readings at daily Mass. Mary was a dog lover, an avid reader, gardener, walked Washington Park in rain or shine, and was proud of her Irish heritage. She was a pillar of the Washington Park Community and lived in the same home for over 50 years Mary contributed her time and money to many worthwhile charities. Mary enjoyed a close relationship with her niece, Maggie wall, always willing to babysit, pick her up from school, and participate in activities with her. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Sheda, her brother, Lawrence Wall, and her sister Marion Jean Howell and Laurena Lehman. Survivors include her brother John P. Wall of Iowa City, and many nephews, nieces, and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., Thursday, February 15, 2018, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Funeral mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on February 16, 2018, 10 am followed by interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. A Memorial Services is being planned for her this summer in Iowa City, Iowa.
