Marv Mazone

""Marvelous Marv"" Mazone passed away on May 5, 2015 after a heroic battle with Alzheimer's' disease. He was 74. The son of Matthew and Margaret Mazone, Marv graduated from North High School and attended the University of Colorado and Arizona State University. He was a native Coloradan who loved the outdoors and playing and teaching the game of golf. He was a life-time member of the P.G.A. of America. Marv was the recipient of the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award for the Colorado section of the PGA. He also received the Warren Smith, Noble Chalfant and Horton Smith awards, as well as many others. ""Marvelous"" started his career at Willis Case Golf Course and retired in 2009, after serving as the director of golf at Hyland Hills Golf Course for 32 years. One of Marv's passions was teaching golf to children, especially those with disabilities. Marv is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathy (Tirsway); three children, whom he absolutely loved and adored, Cristi (Laird) Verbeck, Lorie Mazone (Mike) Couture, and Kurt Mazone, who preceded him in death in 1985. He is also survived by three grandsons, Zachary Dawson, Matthew Dawson and Ian Verbeck; sister, Jeanette Linquist; loving sisters-in-law Judy Schafer, Tina (Steve) Deptula and Debbie (Michael) Hubbell; mother-in-law, June Tirsway; as well as a niece and nephews, Steve, Perry, Greg, Mark, Stephen, Jeff, Beth, Cooper and Alex. A private service and burial were held. A Celebration of Marv's life will be held at Hyland Hills Golf Course, Ciancio's Restaurant. 9650 Sheridan Boulevard, Westminster on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 12:00 Noon.
