Martha Freeman

January 19, 1932 — March 8, 2017

Martha Gene Nash Freeman, age 85, passed away at home in Denver, Colorado on March 8th 2017. Born January 19, 1932 to Nic Nash Jr. and Savery Lewis Nash in Manila, Philippines. She grew up in Ruston, Louisiana, attending Ruston High School and graduating Valedictorian. She graduated from Louisiana State University. She married Mark Price Freeman Jr. in 1956 and has lived in Denver since 1957. She worked as a school teacher for many years and achieved her Master's Degree in American Literature from the University of Denver. She contributed to the Denver Post writing book reviews for the paper. Martha was a member of the Denver Country Club and generously donated both her time and money to the Museum of Nature and Science in Denver. Survivors include her four children: Mark Freeman of Rancho Mirage, CA, Dal Freeman of Englewood, CO, David Freeman of Centennial, CO and Wynne Freeman of Denver, CO. She has five grandchildren: Sasha Freeman, Madeline Freeman, Nash Hartman, Price Hartman and Chase Hartman. She is survived by two siblings, Savery Nash of Palos Verdes, CA and Katherine Harelson of Baton Rouge, LA. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Mark Price Freeman Jr. Martha was known for her intelligence and sharp wit. She had both a strong character and strong opinions. She was also generous and kind of heart. Martha was much loved by her friends and family and will be sorely missed. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at The Denver Country Club on April 8th at 6:00pm. Relatives and friends are welcome.
