Marija Wagner

May 8, 1924 — January 6, 2018

Marija, Mitzi, Mama, Omi; those were her names. She was a loving wife for 66 years, mother to 4 daughters, grandmother to 5 grandchildren, and great-grandmother to 4 sweet children as well as a dear friend to so many. Marija lived through World War II and as a displaced person immigrated to the United States with her husband Nikola and two young daughters in 1951 and became an American Citizen. In her late 30’s, she and her family returned to live in Europe where they spent several years in Belgium and Switzerland and then her birth country Yugoslavia. Marija’s later years were spent in Pittsburgh, Tallahassee and Denver. She learned to love new places, new people, new languages and cultures. Marija embraced life to its fullest. Known for her wit, spunk and spirit she was accepted and cherished by many as a gracious hostess and friend. She loved to have a good time with her husband Niki, and they were inseparable until his passing in 2010 in Florida. Marija lived her life with courage and love and will be remembered in this way as she will always be a part of us. Please share your memories of Marija and condolences with her family below.
