Lorraine Hodel

January 16, 1924 — June 9, 2017

Lorraine Hodel went to be with her Lord and Savior June 9th, 2017. She was born in Belvidere, Illinois, January 16, 1924. Her father worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and her mom was a full time mom, teacher and a wonderful cook, a talent which she thankfully passed on to our Mom and her sister. Lorraine, our Mom, was trained as a Cadet nurse for World War II at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Chicago but by the time she graduated the war had just ended. She later worked at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, and hospitals in Belvidere and Madison, WI. She met and married our Dad, Ron Hodel, a pharmacist who had just gotten out of the army only the day before their wedding. After a brief time in Chicago, they made their home in Colorado where they raised ïééve kids and along with Ron's brothers, opened four drugstores in Bear Valley, Belcaro, Boulder, and Northglenn. Mom enjoyed working alongside our Dad; together making Hodel's Drug a friendly neighborhood store. After selling their remaining store in 1990, the two of them enjoyed traveling and seeing family with their frequent airline ïé'šyer pass- sometimes traveling every week to a different destination. Once they stopped traveling, they would live out their days together attending church and several Bible studies weekly. They enjoyed eating out and browsing stores, as they had done for years in order to better their own store. They did this together until they were unable to, only this past January. They enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos but still liked following the Chicago Bears. Mom loved to sew and cook, listen to hymns, attend her children's activities and do puzzles of any kind. Lorraine and Ron were lovingly married for 64 wonderful years. Lorraine is survived by her husband, Ronald, her son Ron (Gail) Hodel, her daughter Susan (Keith) Christian, her daughter Katie (Steve) Berg, her son David Hodel, her son Jonathan Hodel, and grandchildren Chris (Marianne) Hodel, Margaret (Curtis) Olinger, Karl (Jess) Hodel, Andrew Hodel, Karl Berg, Joshua Christian, Hannah Christian, Stephen Christian and greatgrandchildren Jacob Hodel, Carter Hodel, Ellie Hodel and Wyatt Hodel. Services for Lorraine will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Highlands Ranch at 10:30AM. Please share your condolences with her family by signing the guestbook below.
