Lamar Wiggins

November 13, 1923 — May 5, 2017

Longtime Aurora resident Lamar Wiggins died May 5, 2017, at Shalom Park Nursing Home, with family at his side. He was 93. Lamar was born Nov. 13, 1923, in Fulton, Kentucky, to Noah and John Wiggins. He was raised by his grandmother after his mother and brother died when he was very young. He graduated high school in Akron, Ohio, in 1942, then served three years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He married Betty Reynwald in 1946 in California, and the couple returned to Ohio, where Lamar graduated from the University of Akron in 1949. They moved to the Denver area in 1950, where they had two children, Deborah and Charles. After Lamar and Betty divorced, he married Barbara Henderson in 1969, and they had two children, Michael and Amy. Lamar worked for nearly 25 years as a banker in Denver, first for Mountain States Bank, then for South Denver National Bank, before retiring in 1987. He was a man who enjoyed staying close to home, watching sports on TV, eating out and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved vacationing in Jackson, Wyoming, and Grand Teton National Park, a place he and his family traveled nearly every summer to hike, picnic and relax. He was a longtime member of Faith Presbyterian Church. Lamar is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Charles Wiggins (Andrea), Deborah Wiggins (Andy), Michael Wiggins (Erin) and Amy Dudley (Marcus); and his grandchildren, Chris, Jamie, Reece, Marisa, Amari and Andrew. Services will be at 11 a.m. June 10 at Faith Presbyterian Church in Aurora. A private interment will follow at Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church, 11373 E. Alameda Ave., Aurora 80012.
