June Kyed

January 7, 1935 — December 28, 2017

June Kyed passed away peacefully on the morning of December 28, 2017 after bravely facing cancer the previous five months. She is survived by her three sons, Stan Jr. (and his wife, Holly), Ernest (and his wife, LaVerne), and Paul as well as her three adult grandchildren, John (and his wife, Polly), Aimee, and Andrew. Her vigorous independent spirit and zest for fun will be missed. June was born on January 7, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to parents, Ernest and Theresa. She had an older brother, Earl (who predeceased her in 1986), and a younger sister, Marie. As a young girl, June traveled Route 66 with her family to begin a new life in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from Compton High School in Compton, California and met her future husband, Stanley Kyed, at a big band dance hosted by Les Brown and His Band of Renown. They married on April 7, 1956 in Compton and spent part of their honeymoon visiting the Grand Canyon. After residing in Palmdale, California for a time (where their son, Stan, Jr., was born), the family moved to Colorado so Stanley could pursue a job opportunity with Continental Airlines. In early 1962, Stanley and June purchased their home in Northglenn, Colorado, where they both resided for the remainder of their lives. Their second son, Ernest, was born not long after they moved to Denver, and their third son, Paul, arrived three years later. Both Stanley and June shared a lifelong love of traveling, an activity which they enthusiastically ramped up after their children had gone off to college. Together, they visited all 50 states plus numerous countries in North America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and Asia. They particularly enjoyed sailing on cruise ships which took them to places like the Panama Canal, the glaciers in Alaska, the Greek Isles, the Amazon, and around the tip of South America. After Stanley passed away on August 2, 2009, June continued to pursue her love of traveling, visiting Machu Picchu, Pompeii, and the Great Wall of China, plus many other exotic places. All combined, June spent nearly two years of her life on cruise ships. When she wasn't traveling, June loved visiting with her friends at the Northglenn and Thornton Senior Centers as well as the Northglenn and Thornton Recreation Centers. A Memorial Service will be held in her honor at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant St, Thornton, on Monday, January 15, 2017, 10:30 AM. Memorial donations may be made in June's honor to: Children's Hospital of Colorado 13123 East 16th Avenue Aurora, CO 80045 www.childrenscolorado.org/community/donate-volunteer/donate/ Please share your memories of June and condolences with her family by signing the guestbook below.
