Joan Tannehill nee Mullen was born in Appleton, WI. She attended nursing in school in Praire De Chene, WI, but was delayed by a one year battle with illness. Once her health had improved, she moved to Honolulu, where she met Robert E. Tannehill. They were married Aug 2nd, 1947. Joan's love and compassion were felt by many as the family moved all over the country. Her work in histology served to advance treatment of illness, and later in life, she became a committed volunteer at St. Joseph's hospital in Denver. Having a passion for God's creation, Joan enjoyed walking and birdwatching, a hobby which she passed down to even her great-grandchildren. Her joy at traveling with her own children culminated in taking them, now grown, to visit the ancestral home of Ireland. Joan returned to the presence of her precious Lord last Sunday. After a lifetime of walking in His light, she has finally received her release from the fears and pains of this world. She will hereafter know the grace, mercy and splendor that only God can provide. Preceded in death by her husband, Bob, Joan is survived by all five of her children, Robert (Karen McWay) Tannehill, Judith Watkins, James Tannehill, Mary (Gerhardt) Backhus and Margaret (John Schmuck) Tannehill. 20 grandchildren and now 30 great-grandchildren have been blessed by her kind, cheerful presence. May you see God's light on the path ahead, when the road you walk is dark. May you always hear, even in your hour of sorrow, the gentle singing of the lark. When times are hard, may hardness never turn your heart to stone, May you always remember when the shadows fall â you do not walk alone.
