Irene Brewer

March 28, 1942 — November 27, 2008

Irene Wight Brewer died Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 2008 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado after a courageous battle with cancer. Irene was born in Brigham City, Utah on March 28, 1942, the daughter of James Almon and Anna Elizabeth Wight. She grew up in Thatcher and Ogden, Utah. She married Rodney Rich Brewer on November 20, 1964 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. The family moved to Golden, Colorado in 1973 where she resided the remainder of her life. Irene was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. As a young woman, she worked at JC Penney in Ogden to pay for her education at Weber State College, graduating in the first four year class. She went on to teach elementary school for one year, and then devoted her entire life to raising her family. Irene and Rod recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary. They loved traveling together and participating in classic car caravans and tours. During her life she served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She especially enjoyed her time working with the children in Primary and playing the piano and organ for church. In her final years, Irene showed unrelenting grace and optimism while enduring her illness. She will always be lovingly remembered for the way she served others. Irene is survived by her husband, Rodney Rich Brewer; her children, Elizabeth (Michael) Casperson, Melanie (Chad) Nielson, Rodney W. (Andrea) Brewer, Mary Bashford, Christina Brewer, and Robin (Mark) Youngquist, and 14 grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings; Darrell (Sandra) Wight, Clayton (TreAnn) Wight, and Lorraine (Corey) Cragun. Her parents preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the LDS chapel located at 1643 26th St., Ogden. Friends may visit starting at 9:30 a.m. Interment in the Ogden City Cemetery
