Harry Mattson

November 29, 1931 — September 1, 2017

HARRY MATTSON Harry Mattson, advertising executive, commercial artist and husband of the late Jacqueline L. Mattson, passed away September 1, 2017 in Denver. He was 85 years old. Born in his childhood home in Denver (Globeville), Colorado on November 29, 1931, Harry was the son of Arthur and Annie Mattson, first generation Coloradoans whose parents immigrated to America from Sweden and Kiev, Russia. A graduate of North High School in Denver, Harry served in the United States Navy and then went on to study commercial and graphic design at the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver. He enjoyed a long career in the field of advertising, working for American Greetings in Cleveland, then moving on to agencies in Denver, Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Houston. It was in Houston where Harry met and then married the love of his life, Jacqueline L. Mattson. Harry and Jacque moved to Denver in 1987 and formed Mattson & Mattson, an advertising and graphic arts firm. They were held in high regard by many well-respected clients and specialized in the design of product packaging and brand identities. Harry and Jacque enjoyed 27 years of marriage - building a business, traveling and frequently entertaining family and friends in their home. Most sadly for Harry was the early passing of Jacque in 1999 at the young age of 55. A prolific reader, writer and storyteller, Harry would scribe his thoughts and opinions daily with artistically stylized penmanship in letters to family and friends. He was a student of national and world events, politics and science, often writing his thoughts to the news media, authors, politicians, U.S. Presidents and let’s not forget NFL coaches. Many of these letters received personal responses. His fine art and photography work was awe-inspiring. He was both a student and critic of fine art and loved to share his design ideas and thoughts of others’ works. Harry also enjoyed watching professional football and ignored all door bells and phone calls during the big games. Harry is survived by numerous cousins, friends and neighbors. He will be cremated and his ashes will be interred, together with Jacque’s remains, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, September 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date for family and friends to enjoy Harry’s favorite cuisine - Russian cabbage rolls (halupki), yellow mashed potatoes and fine French burgundy wine. Do svidaniya Harry!
