Harry Burroughs

March 23, 1935 — February 10, 2015

Denver — Harry Burroughs 79, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Swedish Hospital in Englewood, CO. He is preceded in death, by his wife Joyce L. (Donnell) Burroughs, his brother, Robert Jr., and his sisters, Dorothea (Dot Strebler), and Janice. He is survived by his children, Steve, (Shirley), Linda, and Kristi (Wayne) Butkovich, five grandchildren, Jammi Chvatal, Stepheni Baldivia, Nichole Hutchins, Steven R. Burroughs, Jr., Nicholas Butkovich, eight great-grandchildren, his sister Barbara Ann (Williams), twin-brother, Gary, brothers Raymond and Jackie and many additional family members and close friends. Born and raised in Denver, the son of Robert Sr. and Helene (Chaffin) Burroughs, he was a lifelong resident of Denver. The city he commonly referred to as God's Country. In his early years, Harry sold newspapers and shined shoes in what is now known as the Baker Neighborhood and Capitol Hill area. A 1954 West High School graduate, Harry married to his high school sweetheart whom he traveled through life with for 38 years. After graduating high school and marrying, he became a custodian at Skinner Jr. High in North Denver. On May 1, 1961 he was hired into what would become ""his dream job"" as a police officer on the Denver Police Department. A life long, revered career that he shared stories about often. After his retirement in June of 1993, Harry was a dedicated volunteer at the Bear Valley Cop Shop. He traveled, fished, enjoyed outings with family and friends and could be found at any number of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's soccer games, baseball games, swim meets, football games, school events and family gatherings. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Lakewood, 80226 followed by a reception at the VFW Post 2461 - 1350 S.
