Harold Lagergren

February 18, 1926 — May 27, 2015

Harold Lagergren February 18, 1926 – May 27, 2015 Harold touched many lives during his 89 years here on earth and will be greatly missed. There are several memories that highlight his life for me, his only daughter. I always joked that I was his favorite daughter and it would make him laugh! Who would have thought he would live 89 years when they baptized him right away because he was a blue baby! He grew up in a loving family which gave him the values he raised my brothers and me to have. Because he grew up during the depression years, his family worked hard and that work ethic continued throughout his life. He once told me that he felt like he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, meaning that he felt he was richly blessed with family, friends, home and employment. Dad gave us the opportunity to know God and our Savior Jesus Christ. He took us to Church and Sunday school and confirmation classes. He continued to go to Church every Sunday until he was no longer able to physically. Ultimately Dad was a family man. He gave up two jobs that he loved because of the needs of his family. He played with us, counseled us, and disciplined us! He loved us equally! How blessed we are to have had such wonderful parents! He also played with his grandchildren and great-grandsons. He loved his family so much! His eyes lit up and he had a smile and a hug for all of his family and friends whenever they were with him. He also loved his caregivers at Metzler Memory Care and Honor Hospice. Thanks again for your wonderful care! Dad was gifted in math. He told me about a perceptive grade school teacher who gave him and his friends' higher level math to work on to keep them busy and out of trouble! He was so good at math that he was not the best at explaining it. Sometimes my brothers would get mad at him and I would cry! He did pass on the ""math gene"" in varying degrees to all his children, grandchildren and great-grandsons! Harold will be kept alive in the hearts of those who love him. There are many more stories to tell and memories to share. He joins my Mom in my heart. What a privilege it was to know him and have him in my life as a loving father. I know my brothers feel the same. Steve once said, ""He is my hero."" His family all share that sentiment! Be free, Dad, and enjoy your mansion in Heaven! In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Harold's honor to The Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
