March 5, 1922 — February 4, 2015

Gene Reynolds, March 5, 1922 to February 4, 2015 Memorial Service: Friday, February 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM Horan & McConaty, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, Colorado Gene Reynolds was born in Salina, Kansas on March 5, 1922. He was christened Sherman Eugene Reynolds, but he almost never used his first name. His father, Joseph Reynolds, was a railroader. His mother, Jessie Joslin, was a governess for a wealthy Jewish family. When Joe lost his railroad job, the family moved to Denver. They lived in lower Downtown Denver near 15th and Blake. As a boy, Gene caddied at various golf courses like Columbine, The Denver Country Club and Pinehurst. He learned to play the game and was an avid golfer the rest of his life. When he was fifteen, he joined the Civil Conservation Corps (C.C.C.). This was a government program that built mountain trails, did maintenance in mountain parks, and built earthen dams across prairie run-off routes to provide water for grazing livestock. Gene left school in the tenth grade and joined the army. He was a company clerk with the rank of sergeant. He fought in three wars – World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He also got a G.E.D. to complete his high school. His first marriage failed, and he married La Retta Larmon in 1966. This union ended with his death 49 years later. There were no children.
