Gary Windfield

March 8, 1945 — June 20, 2016

Gary, 71, of Denver, Colorado passed on June 20, 2016. Gary Windfield was born in Omaha, Nebraska on March 8, 1945, and grew up in rural Worms, Nebraska. He studied computer science and marketing statistics at the University of Nebraska at Omaha following three years of active military duty with the U.S. Naval Air, during the Vietnam War. He and his wife, Sherry, recently moved to Denver Tech area after residing in Castle Pines Village, Castle Rock, Colorado for 20 years. A 30+ year highly accomplished executive in the direct marketing industry, Gary began his professional career with NCR Corp in sales and marketing of business solutions to financial institutions. After a rewarding career with NCR, he stepped into leadership sales and marketing roles for several early-stage and Fortune 500 companies, including: dbIntellect, the Dbase Marketing business unit of EDS Corporation; Wiland Services; HomeLenders, a Division of Weyerhauser Mortgage; and Cherry Creek Mortgage Company. Gary loved his work and never imagined retiring. He embraced his professional career with the same passion and zeal he had for life. Gary met Sherry while installing a computer system at her place of employment, WNX. It was one of those fairy tale stories –- love at first sight -- and soon after, the two were married on February 8, 1969, and started their life journey together in Grand Island, Nebraska. Gary lived with a passion for life and lit up any room graced with his presence and his bigger-than-life positive attitude, and at the same time, was the calm in the storm when needed. Gary was an avid golfer and member of Castle Pines Country Club with a fancy for automobiles before he was old enough to drive. However, Gary's greatest passion was the love for his wife and extended family. A kind and loving husband, a fun-loving uncle, a loyal and loving sibling, and true friend to many more; Gary deeply touched all who were fortunate to share their lives with him. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Butler Windfield; father, Lloyd Windfield; siblings, Susie Mann and Tom Windfield; sister and brother-in-laws; 16 nieces and nephews; 16 great nieces and nephews; 8 great-great nieces and nephews; and extended family. Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Trudy Windfield and uncle Edgar Windfield, both of whom he idolized.
