Carol Black

Carol Black went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 26, 2018. Her husband Joe Dale Black, her son Steven Mintrell, her parents Ralph and Helen Flye, and her brother Ron precede her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Carol Dalla Betta and her husband Dan; three grandchildren, Casey Daniel Dalla Betta and his wife Shana; Nicole Carol Arguello and her husband Ronnie; and Carina Ida Dalla Betta; two great grandchildren Enzo Daniel Dalla Betta and Avalyn Mary Arguello, all living in the metropolitan Denver area. She has two living sisters, Bonnie Jean Daniel, and Yvonne Cobb, both living in the San Francisco Bay area. Carol Inez Black was born on November 23, 1939 to Ralph and Helen Flye in Minneapolis, Kansas at her grandmother’s house. During her childhood she was very outgoing and happy. She loved people and she loved to sing. She learned to play the piano and was the pianist for her church. She was raised in the Baptist Church and her faith was extremely important to her, she loved sharing her faith and talking about the gospel with her friends and family. She lived in various cities as the family travelled in search of employment. She attended Ardmore High School in Ardmore Oklahoma and that is where she met the love of her life. They were married on May 5, 1956 in Gainesville, Cooke County TX. They were blessed to be married for a remarkable 61 years. After the wedding she lived in Amarillo, TX, Joe worked at West Texas Wholesale. Their daughter Mary Carol was born in Amarillo on January 6, 1957. Due to a job transfer for Joe they moved to San Angelo, TX and on November 27, 1961 she gave birth to their son Steven Mintrell. She was a very dedicated mother and her children were the joy and focus of her life. In 1965 they moved to Arvada, CO and would live there until retirement. Tragically, her son Steve was killed in an accident on July 28, 1967; she carried the pain of Steve’s death with her for her entire life. In Denver she worked as a Cosmetician for Skaggs Drugstore and rose to the position of Head Cosmetician. She often talked about how much she enjoyed all the people she met and worked with, she truly enjoyed helping people. She was skilled makeup artist and always looked like a “million dollars”, she retired after 27 years. She was an excellent seamstress, when Mary Carol was little she made almost all of her clothes. When Mary Carol and Dan were married Carol made the wedding dress and all of the bridesmaids gowns. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren. She would plan fun activities like a bike ride to a picnic at the park or setting up an inflatable pool in the backyard for a fun water day. In 1995 Carol and Joe moved back to San Angelo for a milder climate and to be near their many friends. She was an avid golfer and spent many enjoyable days with the Women’s Golf Club at Bentwood Country Club. She enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables. Her homemade peach preserves were a family favorite. She enjoyed making crafts as well as her own greeting cards, which were always personalized with love for each person she gave them to. She belonged to the San Angelo Chapter of The Antique Auto Club of America. She loved working with the club and loved her 1955 Packard. She and Joe had many enjoyable times attending tours, events, and dinners with the car club. They particularly enjoyed dressing up in period era clothing. In January of 2018, after the loss of her husband, she moved back to the Denver area to be close to her family. She attended quite a few family birthdays and events prior to her passing. Although her time with them was too brief, her family is so grateful to have had this precious time with her. She would like to thank all her friends from Bentwood, The Car Club, and her neighbors in Country Club Lake Estates for all the many years of friendship, great memories and support during the loss of her husband. Funeral services will be on Saturday May 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the McConaty & Horan Funeral home located at 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood CO 80227. Carol will be buried in a service at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, TX on Tuesday May 22nd at 9:30 am.
