Brenda Coy

October 2, 1946 — April 10, 2018

Brenda Coy, 71, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2018. She is survived by her loving husband, two wonderful children and four supportive sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Roy Bindrum of Lincoln, Nebraska. A memorial service to honor her life will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., with reception to follow. Services will be at Horan & McConaty funeral home, 5303 East County Line Road, Centennial, CO 80122. Brenda devoted her life to service for others. Working with families and children with counseling needs led to her degree in Human Development. Becoming part of the initial Nebraska Commission on the Status of Women in the 1970’s, she was driven by her desire to empower others for a better life. Brenda mentored hearing impaired elementary students and then found a home working to support the developmentally disabled, which was greatly fulfilling. All the while, she took time to raise and support her family by being a coach, scout assistant, spectator and supportive aide. Helping others to grow, learn and thrive were the only accolades necessary for her. She was gently competitive, a creative costume maker, dancer, puzzle master, outdoors woman, music lover, avid reader, technology adverse, map challenged, motor scooter riding, free spirit who was truly interested in new things. Brenda enjoyed playing tennis, hiking, swimming, parlor games and biking. Her kind, gentle spirit resonated naturally and was framed by beautiful red hair, blue eyes and fair skin. She always danced her spirit. Brenda made others feel special, heard and valued. Seeking out individuals young and old, she found friendship and meaning where many others might not. There was no need to search for the good in people, she always found it naturally. Her family learned from her to love with kindness, empathy and respect. Sharing in others joy was her fulfillment. Having fresh flowers throughout her house, as well as cultivating them in the garden was one of Brenda’s favorite simple pleasures. Flowers are encouraged and may be sent directly to Horan & McConaty funeral home in Centennial, Colorado for display and appreciation. After the service, the flowers will be donated and delivered to senior care facilities. Alternately, donations may be made in Brenda’s honor to the ALS Association Rocky Mountain Chapter at www.alsaco.org.
