Bob L. Sturm, was born in Muskogee, Ok in 1934. He was 1 of 5 children born to Clyde and Rose Sturm. His siblings were, Violet, Norma Jean, Donald and Bill. He was the pride of Muskogee (Okla.) Central High School, earned four varsity letters in football and three in track at GW between 1952-56.

His primary athletic prowess was on the gridiron where he started 36 consecutive football games in four seasons at defensive safety ('52-55) and three seasons as quarterback ('53-55). He also co-captained the Colonials squad in 1955. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1956, he served as defensive backfield coach the following fall when GW had its finest football season ever (8-1-1) and won the Sun Bowl at El Paso, Texas, on January 1, 1957.

Earning his master's degree in sociology from GW in 1958, Sturm spent the next six years as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force - followed by 14 more years in the Wyoming Air National Guard (ANG). He retired from the ANG as a Lieutenant Colonel and command pilot with more than 20 years of military service and more than 8,000 flying hours.

After completing his active duty commitment in the Air Force, Sturm began a highly successful career as an investment counselor and was a partner of Boettcher and Co., senior vice president of First Union Securities, Senior Financial Advisor of The Sturm Group, a Merrill Lynch Financial Advisory Team, and retired in March 2012 from Merrill Lynch.

In addition to his professional career, Sturm initiated a newsletter sharing the whereabouts and happenings of `50s GW football teammates and classmates. Nearly 100 GW athletes, wives, widows, coaches, staff members and friends were on the list and routinely contributed information on happenings in their lives.

Bob was a faithful Methodist his whole life. He was a member of the Park Hill Masonic Lodge, Lions Club and was a board member for the Kittredge Water and Sanitation District for 28 years.

Bob married Sharon in August 1974. Sharon had 2 kids Sherril, 11 and John, 9. They had their son Bob Jr. in Oct. 1975. He legally adopted Sherril in Dec. 2001. He was a devoted husband and father to all 3 children and unconditionally loved each one. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren Brittney and Chase and was at both of their births. He also adored and enjoyed his great-grandchildren Riley and Wyatt.

Bob loved to tinker in his wood workshop, re-finish antiques, collect Western art and build birdhouses. He and Sharon traveled the world and loved to entertain in their home which included people from all over the world. When he wasn’t downtown working, he was mowing grass or shoveling snow on his John Deer tractor, raking pines needles or pulling weeds. He mopped the kitchen floor every Saturday morning religiously. He loved his mini-schnauzers, family gatherings and holidays. Bob had his own fashion statement …..PLAID.
