Bill Chapman

June 13, 1919 — January 13, 2016

Charles W. ""Bill"" Chapman died peacefully Wednesday January 13, 2016. He was born on June 23, 1919 in Colorado Springs to Charles Raymond and Grace Spafford Chapman. He studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Colorado where he was a member of the CU marching band, graduating in 1941. Bill met Dorothy Jones while they both studied at CU. On September 18, 1942 he married the love of his life and were together for 65 years until her death in 2007. His employment with the General Electric Company took them to Schenectady, NY where Bill and his fellow engineering classmates formed a Colorado Social club which lasted many years. General Electric next took them to Erie, PA where they lived for many years and to Chiba City, Japan where they stayed 5 years and developed an appreciation of the Japanese people and culture. Bill was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church in Erie where he served as an Elder. He belonged to the Lake Shore Country Club where he played golf frequently. Bill particularly enjoyed playing poker and bridge, and was a Bronco's fan from their beginning, following them no matter where he was living. For many years after retirement he volunteered for Meals on Wheels deliveries and taught 55 Alive driving classes for AARP in both Erie and in GreenValley, Arizona where they resided in the winters. Bill was trained in the Stephen Ministry and served in that capacity in Green Valley. In 2007 he moved back to Colorado and lived at St. Andrews Village retirement center in Aurora where he enjoyed a view of his beloved Colorado Rockies. Bill is survived by his son Don R Chapman (Jeanne) of Mechanicsville, VA, his daughter Ramona R Fackler of Aurora, granddaughter, Jennifer R Fackler of Denver and many nieces and one nephew.
